The world's largest supercomputer is running in Memphis, TN. xAI will require up to 5 million gallons of water per day in an area threatened with arsenic pollution and fragile water infrastructure. POA does not support using our drinking water supply to cool computers. The company has applied for a permit to build and operate a water recycling facility that would keep xAI & TVA off of our aquifer. We are requesting a public hearing to learn what is right for our neighbors in 38109 and our Aquifer.
Wetlands play a critical role recharging our aquifer. Protections and mitigation for these natural features have been in state law since the 1970s, but recent actions by the TN Legislature threaten this longstanding program. After a summer of stakeholder meetings, a list of recommendations were drafted and a compromise was released. Unfortunately, the bill ignores that hard work and severely limits what can be protected. We need to pressure Gov. Lee to keep his conservation agenda and veto the removal of wetland protections!
Did you know Shelby County is only place in TN with a Groundwater Board? No new aquifer protection programs have been established since the Groundwater Board was created in the late 1980s. We're on a mission to rebuild this board and need the community involved! Addressing contaminated sites, protecting our wells, expanding education, and monitoring water quality are key needs to ensure we have clean drinking water far into the future. What are your ideas?
