The first Juneteenth celebration in Memphis was in 1993 in Douglass Park, North Memphis by Glynn Johns-Reed. Her exhaustive efforts has inspired Juneteenth Celebrations in most black communities in Memphis.
From a tradition spanning nearly a half-century, the Memphis Pride Festival has evolved from a modest picnic to a regional highlight, attracting over 50,000 attendees. It features over 175+ vendors and exhibitors, a grand Pride parade, two stages with live entertainment including headliners, local musicians, drag artists, special guest speakers, VIP experiences, educational sessions, a kids’ area, and interactive activities, embodying a spirit of unity and diversity in the heart of Memphis.
