Join Protect Our Aquifer on Thursday, December 4th for our next Aquifer Action Meeting, a community-centered space designed to build clarity, confidence, and collective power ahead of the upcoming Shelby County Groundwater Board meeting.

The Groundwater Board is supposed to play a special role in protecting our Aquifer and we need to stay engaged! The December 11th board agenda includes nominations for new officers, CREATING bylaws, a discussion of regulations, and several water well permit appeals — all decisions that shape how our groundwater is used and how transparent, accountable, and community-responsive this Board will be.

These Groundwater Board meetings can also influence the broader landscape of industrial pressure on the Memphis Sand Aquifer, like major water-use projects from xAI, Nucor Steel, and other high-demand industries. Understanding these decisions is essential for ensuring that community voices—not corporate interests—guide the long-term stewardship of our drinking water.

At the Aquifer Action Meeting, we’ll walk through the Board agenda in clear, easy language and create space to learn, ask questions, and brainstorm what YOU want from this Board. You’ll also get tools to prepare effective public comments, understand how well regulations work, and take meaningful action to ensure our Aquifer is defended with transparency and community oversight.

Dinner will be provided, and all are welcome—whether you’re brand-new to aquifer advocacy or a returning attendee. Come learn, connect, and help strengthen a powerful, informed community presence at the Groundwater Board on December 11.
