As you all may know by now, the Shelby County Groundwater Board is an important body that makes key decisions about our water.
On May 7, the Shelby County Groundwater Board will begin discussing the creation of a long-overdue Groundwater Protection Plan—the roadmap for how we protect our drinking water for generations to come.
Here’s the truth:When the Board was established in 1987, it was specifically tasked with creating this plan… and 39 years later, it still doesn’t exist.
At the last meeting, we shared The Blue Print, which is a community-informed guide that we put together that illustrates what real aquifer protection could look like. Now, the conversation is moving forward and it needs to include all of us!
We'd love for you to come and join us at this meeting so that they can see that the community is invested in the protection and future of our drinking water!
Public comments are open (2 minutes), and your voice matters, whether you’re sharing concerns, asking questions, or calling for stronger protections.
If you’re interested in giving a comment, reach out to rheannan@protectouraquifer.org and we’ll support you in preparing.
